~ Salt Water Taffy ~
1 cup granulated sugar
2 T cornstarch
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
2 T margarine
1/2 t salt
1 t flavoring (pure oil--your choice)
Mix sugar and cornstarch in a saucepan, then stir in
remaining ingredients. Cook, stirring, until sugar
dissolves. Continue cooking, without stirring, to 260F.
After boiling ceases, stir in 1 teaspoon flavoring
(pure oil) and food coloring. Pour onto a greased
sheet. When cool enough to handle, grease hands and
pull until satiny and light in color. Cut into 1 inch
pieces. Wrap in wax paper.
Makes 1 lb candy

For gift giving, individually wrap taffy pieces with
clear cellophane. Package wrapped taffy in gift box.
Embellish gift box with Christmas greenery and ribbon.
Add gift tag.
