~ Soft Molasses Cookies ~
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs lightly beaten
4 cups flour
1/2 t salt
2 1/4 t baking soda
2 1/2 t ginger
1 1/2 t cloves
1 1/2 t cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350F.
Cream butter, shortening & sugar until light &
fluffy. Beat in molasses & eggs, set aside. Mix
together dry ingredients, blending well. Gradually
mix flour mixture into creamed ingredients until
dough is blended & smooth. Roll dough into 1 inch
balls & dip in sugar. Place 2 1/2 inches apart on
greased cookie sheet. Bake for 11 minutes. Do not
over bake. Store tightly covered;
a metal tin works best.

tie tin closed with a homespun fabric bow and
add gift tag.
