~ Peppermint Crisps Cookies ~
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 t baking powder
1/4 t baking soda
1/4 t salt
1/4 t nutmeg
1 egg, well beaten
1 T milk
3-4 T crushed candy canes
Preheat oven to 350F.
Cream shortening and sugar. Sift dry ingredients
together including spice. Add to first mixture
alternating with milk and beaten egg which have
previously been combined. Blend well. Roll into
small balls and place about 2 inches apart on to
greased cookie sheets. Flatten cookies by pressing
with a glass dipped in flour. Sprinkle each cookie
with the crushed candy canes and gently press it in
to the dough. Bake for 12 minutes. Cool slightly
before removing from pans. Store in air tight
containers after cookies have completely cooled.
Makes 2 1/2 - 3 dozen cookies

Decorate tin with country graphics and give
as a gift. Line tin with decorative cellophane,
tie tin closed with a homespun fabric bow and
add gift tag.
