~ Lemon Pound Cake ~
1/2 lb butter
1/2 cup shortening
3 cup sugar
1 t vanilla
1 t lemon
6 eggs
3 cups flour, sifted
1/2 t baking powder
pinch salt
1 cup sweet milk
Preheat oven to 325F.
Cream butter, shortening, sugar, vanilla, and
lemon. Add eggs; one at a time. Sift dry
ingredients with flour. Add flour mixture and
milk; alternately, to creamed mixture. Bake in
large tube pan for 1 1/2 hours.
~Variations~
Black Walnut: omit lemon. Add 1 teaspoon black
walnut flavor and 3/4 cups black walnuts
Chocolate: Add 1/2 cup cocoa with dry ingredients
and add 1/4 cup milk. Use 5 eggs. Omit lemon.
Cherry: Add 1/2 - 1 cup Maraschino cherries. Ice
with juice and powdered sugar.
Fruit: Add 1 lb candied fruit. 1 lb each; whole
cherries and nuts.

For gift giving bake cake in a decorative disposable
aluminum covered pan. Leave baked cake in pan.
Embellish pan with ribbon. Add recipe card.
