~ Whole Grain Bread Mix ~
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup whole-wheat flour
1/4 cup old fashioned oats
2 T yellow cornmeal
2 T wheat germ
2 T unprocessed bran
2 T firmly packed brown sugar
1 t salt
1 package quick-rise dry yeast
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl;
stir until well blended. Store in an
airtight container in a cool place. Give
with baking instructions.
Makes 2 1/2 cups bread mix, 1 loaf bread
To bake bread: Place bread mix in large
bowl. In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup milk
and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil until very
warm (120 to 130 degrees). Add bread mix;
stir until a soft dough forms. Turn onto a
lightly floured surface and knead 5 minutes
or until dough becomes smooth and elastic.
Cover and allow dough to rest 10 minutes.
Shape dough into a loaf and place in a greased
4 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch loaf pan. Spray top of
dough with cooking spray, cover, and let rise
in a warm place 50 minutes or until doubled in
size. Preheat oven to 375F. Brush top of loaf
with a beaten egg. Bake 25 - 30 minutes or
until bread is golden brown and sounds hollow
when tapped. Serve warm or transfer to a wire
rack to cool completely. Store in an
airtight container.

For gift giving package bread mix in a plastic
bag (ziplock). Place plastic bag in a festive
gift bag and tie top with ribbon.
