~ Cherry Nut Bread ~
2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
2 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
1/2 cup shortening
12-14 chopped Maraschino cherries
3/4 cup chopped nuts
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup Maraschino cherry juice
Preheat oven to 350F.
Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening,
then add cherries and nuts. Combine liquid
ingredients, add liquid to dry ingredients. Stir
only till flour is moistened. Pour into a greased
9x5x3 inch loaf pan. Bake for 50 - 60 minutes.
Makes 1 loaf

For gift giving set each loaf on top of small
bread board. Wrap in Saran Wrap. Embellish with
a homespun fabric bow and gift tag.
