Seasoned Bean Soup
~ Mix in a Jar ~
1/2 cup kidney beans
1/2 cup split yellow peas
1/2 cup black beans
1/2 cup red lentils
1/2 cup small red beans
1/2 cup split green peas
~Seasoning Mix~
1 tbsp dried sweet pepper flakes
2 tsp chicken bouillon granules
2 tsp dried minced onion
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp dried parsley flakes
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp celery seed
4 tbsp brown sugar
Combine seasoning ingredients; mix well. Store in a ziplock plastic bag
Layer beans in wide-mouth 1-quart canning jar in order listed above
Add seasoning packet to top of jar
Put the lid on the jar and tie a homespun fabric bow around the lid
As an added touch, tie a wooden spoon to the lid
Attach jar labels to the jar with the following instructions

~ Seasoned Bean Soup ~
1 jar soup mix
2--14 1/2oz cans stewed tomatoes
1 tsp liquid smoke ( optional )
6 cups water
Rinse beans and place in large Dutch oven
or stock pot. Pour 4 cups boiling water
over beans; cover and let soak overnight
Drain beans and return to stock pot
Add 6 cups water, cover, and bring to
a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low
and simmer 1-1 1/2 hours or until beans
are almost tender. Add tomatoes and
seasoning mix. Stirring occasionally,
cover and simmer 30 minutes. Uncover
beans and continue to simmer about
1 hour longer or until beans are tender
and soup thickens. Serve warm
Makes about 10 cups soup
