Painted Desert Chili
~ Mix in a Jar ~
1/4 cup dried parsley
2 tbsp granulated garlic
2 tbsp taco seasoning
2 tbsp dried onion flakes
2 tbsp taco seasoning
2 tbsp cumin
2 tbsp paprika
2 tbsp white cornmeal
2 tbsp taco seasoning
2 tbsp granulated garlic
2 tbsp chili powder
2 tbsp dried parsley
1 cup dried pinto beans
1/4 cup small dried white beans
1/4 cup small dried black beans
Approximately 1 cup dried kidney beans
Layer in wide-mouth 1-quart canning jar in order listed above
The ingredients are layered, like sand art. Layers are not even
The desert effect comes from the rippled appearance of the spices
Put the lid on the jar and tie a homespun fabric bow around the lid
As an added touch, tie a wooden spoon to the lid
Attach jar labels to the jar with the following instructions

~ Painted Desert Chili ~
1 jar chili mix
1 medium onion, diced
4--15oz cans diced tomatoes
1 large can of tomato paste
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1--49oz tomato juice
2 lb ground beef, browned
Pour contents of jar into 12-quart pot
Add additional ingredients for recipe
Fill remainder of the pot with water
Bring to boil. Let simmer for 2 1/2-3 hours
Add salt and pepper to taste
