Old Fashion Ham Hock Stew
~ Mix in a Jar ~
1 cup dried red kidney beans
1 1/3 cup dried great northern beans
1 cup dried pinto beans
1 bay leaf
~Seasoning Packet~
2 tbsp dried minced onion
2 tbsp dried celery flakes
1 tbs dried parsley
1 tsp marjoram
1 tsp dried whole leaf thyme
4 tbs chicken bouillon
Mix and place the seasonings in a small plastic bag
Layer in wide-mouth 1-quart canning jar in order listed above
Place the packet on top of the beans
Put the lid on the jar and tie a homespun fabric bow around the lid
As an added touch, tie a wooden spoon to the lid
Attach jar labels to the jar with the following instructions

~ Old Fashion Ham Hock Stew ~
1 jar stew mix
2 ham hocks
1 cup carrots, chopped
10-12 cups water
Remove seasoning packet from the mix
Wash beans and put into microwave dish,
filling with water 1- 2 inches over the beans
Cover tightly with plastic wrap, and poke 3
small holes in wrap with a sharp knife
Microwave on high for 9 minutes, then rotate
dish and microwave another 9 minutes
Drain beans and place in crockpot
Cover with 10-12 cups hot water
Add ham hocks, carrots and
seasoning packet
Cook on high for 5-6 hours
Remove and discard the bay leaf
