~ Jelly Bean Gems Mix in a Jar ~
2 cups quick-cooking oatmeal**
(**not instant)
3/4 cup red and green jelly beans
1 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup sugar
Layer in wide-mouth 1-quart canning jar in order listed above
Press each layer firmly in place before adding next ingredient
Put the lid on the jar and tie a homespun fabric bow around the lid
As an added touch, tie a wooden spoon to the lid
Attach jar labels to the jar with the following instructions

~ Jelly Bean Gems ~
1 jar cookie mix
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
2 eggs
Preheat the oven to 350F
In a large bowl, cream the peanut butter and eggs
Add contents of jar and stir until well-mixed
Drop dough by heaping teaspoons onto an
ungreased baking sheet, spacing about 2 inches
apart. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until lightly
browned. Cool for five minutes; then remove to
a rack. Store airtight for up to 2 weeks
Makes 3 dozen cookies
