A fun and easy way to package great gifts for giving
Give jars by themselves or use as the perfect addition to any gift basket
Great idea for the holidays or any special occasion
~ Hush Puppy Mix in a Jar ~
1 1/2 cups yellow cornmeal
3/4 cup flour
3 tbsp dried minced onion
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp ground red pepper
Layer in wide-mouth 1-quart canning jar in order listed above
Press each layer firmly in place before adding next ingredient
Put the lid on the jar and tie a homespun fabric bow around the lid
As an added touch, tie a wooden spoon to the lid
Attach jar labels to the jar with the following instructions

~ Hush Puppies ~
1 jar mix
vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
1 egg, beaten
In a deep skillet, heat 1 1/2 inches of vegetable oil
to 350F. In a medium bowl, combine contents of jar
with buttermilk and egg. Stir until well blended
Drop mixture by spoonsful into hot oil
Fry until golden brown and thoroughly cooked
Drain on paper towels and serve
