A fun and easy way to package great gifts for giving
Give jars by themselves or use as the perfect addition to any gift basket
Great idea for the holidays or any special occasion
~ Tortilla Soup Mix in a Jar ~
1 cup converted long grain rice
2 to 2 1/2 cups tortilla chips, slightly crushed
~Seasonings Mix~
2 tbsp chicken bouillon granules
2 tsp lemon-flavored sugar
1 tsp lemon pepper
1 tsp dried cilantro leaves
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup dried minced onion
Mix the seasonings and place in a ziplock sandwich bag
Layer in wide-mouth 1-quart canning jar in order listed BELOW**
**rice, seasoning packet, tortilla chips
Put the lid on the jar and tie a homespun fabric bow around the lid
As an added touch, tie a wooden spoon to the lid
Attach jar labels to the jar with the following instructions

~ Tortilla Soup ~
1 jar soup mix
10 cups of water
1--5oz can chicken
1--10oz can diced tomatoes and green chiles
Remove tortilla chips and seasoning packet
from the jar into a dish and set aside
In a 1-gallon soup pot, add the rice and water
Add the can of tomatoes, the can of chicken,
and the seasoning packet from the jar
Bring to a boil; lower the heat,
cover and simmer for 20 minutes
Add tortilla chips, replace the cover
and simmer 5 more minutes
Makes 3 quarts soup
